Niagara+ RO System Components

The Niagara+ Reverse Osmosis Water System is unique in the market and produces the purest and best-tasting water. To find out how, please refer to the diagram at the right as you read the following paragraphs.

1) Water entry valve installed on cold water line.

2) Manometer (0-100 psi) for reading of the entry water pressure.

3) 5µ (microns) pre-filter to eliminate sediments.
This filter is made of high quality polypropylene micro-fibers. The progressive density of these micro-fibers in the construction of the filter allows for the best filtering properties and maximum particle retention. These cartridges meet the FDA Standard 21 of the federal regulation code 174.5 and 177.1520.

4) Activated carbon pre-filter.
We eliminate volatile organic compounds and all chlorine derivatives in order to protect the TFC (Thin-Film Composite) reverse osmosis membrane which would decompose with excessive contact with chlorine. This type of carbon eliminates 100% of the chlorine for an average service life of ± 14 months (5,000 US gallons or 19,000 liters). This stage treats the water at the odor, color and taste levels. The cartridge is made so that water enters at the bottom and is filtered through the entire charcoal bed before coming out at the top, which maximizes the contact time of the water with the charcoal, thus improving pollutant absorption. The filter comes with a polyester screen at the bottom to collect sediment particles, as well as an O-ring at each end to ensure a tight fit in the housing. The cartridge contains about 284 grams of carbon. It meets the NSF/ANSI STD 42 for aesthetic effects.

3 & 4) Filter housings
The filter housings are made of pure polypropylene approved by the FDA and WCF (Water Conditioning Foundation) which assures quality through hydrostatic tests at 300 to 500 psi, which is more than enough for our operating pressure (maximum of 125 psi). The couplings are made of nylon and/or acetyl with retainers and inserts which secure the tubing with the couplings so they cannot come apart under pressure. Many devices on the market today do not take care of these small details and a rupturing of the couplings may occur with sudden pressure surges. All our tubing is made of extremely stable polyethylene that does not leave any plastic after-taste or gas emanations. All our materials are corrosion resistant and have been approved by federal American and Canadian institutions. These products contain no caulking agent, softening agent or fiberglass.

5) Manometer (0-100 psi) for reading of the water pressure after pre-filtering. This helps to determine when pre-filters should be cleaned or changed.

6) Automatic shutoff valve which controls the operation of the system by balancing the pressures between the inlet and the pressurized tank. This prevents water waste by shutting off the device when the tank is full.

7) Molecular ionic polarization system.
This patented, one-of-a-kind Catalyzer / Scale Inhibitor polarizes limestone (scale) molecules and prevents them from causing any damage to the reverse osmosis membrane by creating a natural ionic repulsion in each molecule or particle.

It is important to note that natural limestone molecules act as small needles which tear the membrane surface. This impacts significantly the lifespan of the membrane. With this unique polarization system, we have demonstrated that the limestone “needles” are caused to agglomerate and form small porous balls. These small balls are positively charged, and create a natural ionic repulsion between them and the membrane surface. This ionic repulsion is possible since the membrane is naturally subjected to a tangential flow of water which removes electrons, creating a positive charge to its surface. This inhibits the contact of many pollutants with the membrane and its performance and longevity have been shown to be significantly increased (± 4 years longer than the average life of membranes). It should be noted that this process destabilizes and breaks down chemical, industrial and natural pollutants. The discharge of polluting molecules to the drain is ensured by a continuous backwash operation.

8) Reverse osmosis membrane.
A premium TFC (Polyamide Thin-Film Composite) reverse osmosis membrane, is used to eliminate more than 96% of total dissolved solids (TDS), suspended matter up to 1,000 PPM (mg/l), and up to 99% of organic, inorganic and biological material. These membrane elements are NSF/ANSI Standard 58 listed.

It should be noted that we do not use CTA (Cellular Triacetate) membranes, which quickly deteriorate upon contact with bacteria and viruses. The TFC membranes are not attacked by bacteria, viruses or parasites, and easily eliminate them from the surface.

9) Restricter
The restricter maintains an adequate osmotic pressure in the R/O membrane housing. This device is also equipped with a mesh filter which retains small particles that can interfere with its proper functioning. The second function of the restrictor is to allow waste water containing all the impurities to discharge to the drain. As required by most construction code standards, we have added a non-return valve above the restrictor that eliminates drain reflux and thus prevents any contamination of this kind.

10) T-connector in ABS (installed on the drain line after the P trap) which connects to the drain tubing and directs discharge to the drain.

11) Activated carbon filter polishes the water.
It is our insurance policy to ensure the high quality of the finished product. The butyl liners of pressure tanks often can impart a taste to the water. This filter eliminates any such problem.

12) Pressure tank collects the purified water. It is easy to clean, and we recommend this be done periodically. These tanks are FDA and NSF approved.

13) Hydrophilic PES (Polyethersulfone) membrane - 0.2µ (micron) absolute.
This new post-membrane, just like the Molecular Catalyzer, is a unique innovation in this class of Reverse Osmosis Water Systems. It is extremely efficient, and filters out all microscopic particles, especially any polyamide debris from a degrading reverse osmosis membrane. Its asymmetry ensures a reliable filtering process. This post-membrane also solves the problem of bacteria growing in the storage tank re-entering the system. This proliferation of bacteria is caused by the stagnation of small amounts of water that may collect inside the butyl membrane lining the storage tank.

The ionic polarization process of the Scale Inhibitor (described earlier) increases significantly the efficiency of the absolute 0.2µ post-membrane by giving an ionic charge to any bacterial mass which comes near it. The PES membrane creates a physical barrier that ensures an excellent protection against all dead or living bacteria, viruses, etc. all the while preventing these pollutants from clogging the membrane surface. The Hydrophilic PES membrane is FDA approved.

14) Long reach faucet dispenses the final product.
